At the end of Thumbelina's tale, she flies off from the mole's house on the back of the sparrow she rescued and lands in a field of flowers, where she meets the fairy prince.
I found the flower field too cheesy and too boring to paint, so I went for the movie's idea of having them meet on a tree branch. Except that here it's not winter, it's a nice dawn in springtime.
I spent, like, hours doing and redoing the background. I did a field, grass, a mushroom nest, a bunch of leaves, tree roots, even a river, before finally settling for the movie's idea. So when it came to coloring the characters I was SO ANNOYED with the painting already that I just rushed everything. So I'm not pleased with it but after all this work I'm posting it anyway, for the sake of my sanity.
Someone had suggested I made my own version of Thumbelina when I was asking for ideas last time. And I have to say I'm pleased with the overall design. The people that designed her hairdo in the movie should be thrown into the bog of eternal stench. Giving her those three ridiculous locks... wtf ? And those cheeks, why SO PINK ?
EDIT : got some requests for prints so I submitted it. I had no idea someone would like this printed, I must really have a bad opinion of my job right now
I loved that movie and the song! I really like the background but I could be a little biased because I never do any.
Hmmm..For your Thumbelina..I didn't really care for her hair in the movie either. I've never seen any of the fairy tale girls with short hair. It's always long and flowing, so I think short hair would look better.

There's this nice animated movie called Happily n'ever after, Cinderella (Ella in fact) is the heroine and she's got VERY short hair (almost like a boy's). I find it very cute. I have nothing against short hair, I just prefer long hair myself But that would be a nice idea, making a short haired princess next time. Snow White maybe. Though Disney already did that, duh.
lol your pic is very lovely and your version of the Prince is very nice, he's very handsome ^^ To be honest i love Thumbelina's character design in the movie lol, she's very cute and does not look like Disney Princesses ( yeah i know, Thumbelina is not a Disney movie) and it's the design of Prince Cornelius that i don't really like

Everything is so good from the background to the characters
It hard to believe that you say you rushed them, when they have come out so well.
